St. Moritz is an exclusive destination that has been established for over 150 years as one of the most luxurious places to visit in the Alps. It epitomises the glitz and glamour of the Swiss Alps, the village is beautifully located on the edge of Lake St. Moritz. The setting is wonderfully picturesque. Known to have a ‘champagne climate’, St. Moritz is one of the sunniest destinations in the Alps with on average over 300 days of sunshine per year.
The town of St. Moritz is exclusive and attracts the rich and famous, with stylish fashion boutiques and exciting lunch spots, akin to the likes of Courchevel, Megève and Zermatt. The resort is made up of two distinct areas, St. Moritz Dorf and St. Moritz Bad. The more popular of the two of these being St. Moritz Dorf, located by the lake with a range of stunning hotels, whereas St. Moritz Bad provides a more low key destination.
This delightful Alpine resort is positioned at the snow-sure altitude of 1,822 metres which usually results in fantastic snow conditions. It is the ideal destination for exploring the varied slopes through the day and spending the afternoon with a refreshing drink on a sun terrace. The ski area is made up of 307 kilometres of pistes mainly aimed at intermediate skiers but with plenty for beginners and experts as well. The area is split into three main areas: Corviglia, full of red and blue pistes as well as a few black pistes. Covatsch, offers high altitude intermediate skiing and night skiing on Friday evenings. Diavolezza is a 30 minute bus ride from St. Moritz and a ski area more suited to experts and off-piste aficionados.
For dining St. Moritz has plenty of options with over 30 restaurants on the mountain such as El Paradiso, known for its large sun terrace and mixing local ingredients with modern techniques, and the Alpetta which serves fantastic rustic traditional cuisine. In resort there is a choice of Michelin starred establishments, such as Badrutt’s Palace’s IGNIV by Andreas Caminada, as well as more relaxed dinner options. For a post-ski drink, the Schweizerhof often has fantastic live music and cocktails on offer whilst Bobby’s Pub provides a relaxed more information setting.
As a winter destination not only does St. Moritz provide fantastic skiing but there are numerous activities and events to enjoy. Guests can skate on the frozen lake, watch those who choose to hurtle down the Cresta ice skeleton racing toboggan track, enjoy the Ovavera sports centre, spectate at the Snow Polo World Cup in January or the Engadin ski marathon in March.
