Top five places to stay in the Seychelles
August 10, 2021
The Seychelles is one of our top destinations, an Indian Ocean paradise that guests dream of visiting. The Seychelles is more accessible than many think, there are direct flights from London, it is just a three hour time difference ahead and there are some excellent reasonably priced hotels.
I have chosen a few favourites to visit below. Many of the hotels are suited to honeymooners and couples, however there are quite a few which offer a vast range of activities for those looking to do more than relax whilst away. Several also offer high quality childcare.
1. For that paradise, private island feeling: Fregate Private Island
This incredible private island has seven beautiful and quiet white sandy beaches. Offering 16 attractively crafted and individually styled villas all boasting private pools. The island is more than a luxurious hideaway, it is a conservation sanctuary with a private inland harbour and yacht club with PADI certified dive centre. Fregate Private Island offers dining around the island and there are lots of beautiful spots to choose from.
The island can be booked by the room or the whole island in its entirety offering the ultimate holiday with friends and family. It is also home to the Giant Aldabra Tortoise, with 3000 roaming the island. There are more than 1000 bird species and the island is surrounded by beautiful reefs and waters which are filled with marine life, including the endangered hawksbill sea turtles. This is the perfect place for couples, it is also a great place for children and there is an outdoor play area as well as the Castaway Children’s Club. If you are looking for an idyllic and special island then Fregate Private Island is the place to go.
2. For a beyond all-inclusive experience: Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas
A collection of 30 spectacular villas located on Mahé in the Seychelles, just 35 minutes from the International Airport. The Anantara Maia Resort is a superb and luxurious hotel to visit. Each private villa has a host on call 24 hours a day and the butler service is dedicated and personal to each guest for their stay. The resort itself offers a unique beyond all-inclusive concept, not only are all your meals, drinks and premium alcoholic drinks included but there is an anytime, anywhere philosophy on the island.
As well as food and drinks the all-inclusive experience includes a variety of aspects from scuba diving to yoga. The premium villas also offer in-villa barbecue dining, daily private yoga and a spa treatment.
3. For nature and wildlife: Denis Private Island
Denis Private Island is the ideal destination for those looking to connect with nature and stay in luxury whilst on a picturesque island in the Indian Ocean. 375 acres make up this incredible island that is famous for its white sandy beaches, sea life and sea turtle sanctuary. The island has a primary focus on conservation and also relaxing and switching off. Whilst there is WiFi on the island you won’t find mobile signal or digital mod cons in your room. The idea is to immerse yourself in the luxury of island life in this secluded paradise. Denis Private Island is a member of the Green Islands Foundation, an NGO that focuses on conservation in the Seychelles. There are many rare birds found on the island and some of the endangered species you can find here are perfect for nature lovers. There are also the hawksbill and green turtles who lay their eggs on the protected beaches at Denis Private Island which is incredible to see. There is an amazing eco-system that can be found here.
Much of the food is grown on the island or locally caught, the farm-to-table dining is exquisite. The rooms are spacious and finished in a colonial style offering open-air bathrooms and beautiful pavilions and courtyards. If you are looking to escape from the busy working life this is the place to head to.
.4 For an eco-friendly resort: Club Med Seychelles Eco-Resort
New to the Seychelles for 2020, this is one for those looking to travel sustainably. Located on the island of Saint Anne, the hotel offers beautiful grounds and surroundings and is not just suited to couples but families alike. With adult-only Zen areas, a bar and restaurant there is plenty of space to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, not to mention the incredible spa. For families there are so many activities on offer including an adventure park, tennis, archery and the watersports. There is also childcare available from two years and upwards.
Not only is the resort an eco-certified chic resort, it is also part of the Club Med Exclusive Collection, the resort is dedicated to preserving the nature of the island. There is plenty of space for guests to explore and there is a holistic experience for those looking to rejuvenate and focus on their wellbeing. One main draw to this property is the all-inclusive package that Club Med offers. Not only are all meals and drinks, snacks and nibbles included, but there are many activities from yoga to paddleboarding, cookery workshops and childcare (from four years old).
5. For families and activities: Constance Ephelia
Excellently located on the mainland Mahé, where direct flights arrive from the UK and it is just a 40 minute transfer from the international airport. Here children of any age are welcome and the Constance Ephelia hotel is a beautiful and special resort in the Seychelles. Green Globe Certified the resort overlooks the Marine National Park, with spectacular views of the beach and crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The resort offers plenty of childcare and the Constance Kids Club which includes a range of activities for many age groups and babysitting for those under four years. Parents can truly relax in this paradise knowing that their children are safe and well looked after.
The resort is not overrun with children, as it is one of the larger resorts on the island and the Seychelles for that matter, there is so much space that each guest can enjoy their time here and feel the privacy that the resort offers. The facilities are excellent with its own watersports centre and spa you will never need to leave, unless you would like to explore the local restaurants that are within striking distance.
An excellent all-round resort this is one for extended groups and families and has a range of rooms and suites to fit.
