Okonjima Nature Reserve sits in the Ombokoro Mountains of Namibia between the capital Windhoek and the Etosha National Park, an enchanting game reserve home to luxurious safari lodges and providing its own take on the African Adventure.
The Africat Foundation was founded in 1991 in order to ensure the survival of big cats like the leopard and cheetahs found in the Okonjima and preserve their natural habitat and surroundings and aid conservation. The Okonjima spans 22,000 km² with varied terrain and ecosystems from the Ombokoro mountains to wide grassy plains and a huge salt pan which transforms with the rains to become the natural habitat for migratory flamingos in the wet season.
The game which you can see in the Okonjima is a spectacle to behold, the presence of the AfriCat Foundation is a clear indication of what you might hope to see, with a great number released back to the wild meaning that your chances are high of seeing elusive cheetah and leopards. A bespoke safari experience is on offer, where you track cheetah and wild dogs on foot, drive into the reserve and find some of the larger mammals of Africa including black rhino, elephants, giraffe and lions, or enjoy searching and tracking birds, with up to 250 species living in the Okonjima Nature Reserve.
