La Plagne, set within the Paradiski area in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps, is part of a ski area offering 425 kilometres of piste runs, it is filled with high snow-sure resorts that offer easy access to the glacier. Linked with Les Arcs by the largest cable car in the world, 70% of the skiing is over 2000 metres it is very snow-sure and a fantastic family-friendly place to visit during the Easter ski holidays.
One of the most popular ski resorts in the world, La Plagne receives more than 2.5 million visitors each winter. With its Glacier de La Chiaupe reaching 3,250 metres high it is one of the most snow-sure resorts. There are 225 kilometres of pistes on the La Plagne side of the Paradiski area alone and it has a mixture of runs ranging from green to black, and it is excellent for beginner to intermediate skiers as well as children.
Each village in La Plagne has a different feel, with all being purpose built it is very convenient in terms of ski access and some of the villages are pettier than others. It is perfect for families and those wanting a quieter ski holiday. Made up of 11 separate villages ranging from Montchavin at 1,250 metres up to Aime La Plagne at 2,100 metres there is plenty of choice. To note a few Champagny and Montchavin at 1,250 metres up to Montalbert at 1,350 metres and Les Coches at 1,450 metres high are where many locals have chalets.
Heading up to Plagne 1800, an attractive village set in the trees, it is a popular village with the British, with some beautiful catered chalets and with direct access to Plagne Centre at 2,050 metres altitude, it is the original resort built in La Plagne. Plagne Centre has the satellite villages of Plagne Soleil and Plagne Villages nearby at 2,050 meters high, here you can find quiet slopes and lovely accommodation. Belle Plagne set at 2,050 metres just above Plagne Bellecote set at 1,930 metres, is again a more attractive and quiet resort great for those looking for easy ski access especially to the Vanoise Express which links the La Plagne ski area to Les Arcs.
Generally a resort not famed for its après ski or nightlife, but there are a couple of bars and a few nice restaurants to sample. Le Jolly Bois, by the Vanoise Express is great for a hot vin chaud (but with white wine) or have lunch at Chauffe Marcel in Plagne Centre or enjoy dinner at the gastronomic Hotel Carlina run by chef Thibault Schach in Belle Plagne. Just 90 minutes to Chambery airport and 2 hours 30 minutes from Geneva, it is easy to get to with regular flights and transfers.
