Best destinations for a family holiday
December 4, 2018
When planning a family holiday there are many things that need to be considered that you wouldn’t necessarily worry about without children. We have lots of destinations to choose from, some short haul, some long haul, some are great for families and some not so much. After travelling to many of our destinations we have put together some brilliant family friend places to stay including hotels as well as easy countries to visit. Hopefully this will help give you some ideas for your next holiday.
If you have any questions please speak to our specialist as we can always tailor a holiday if you are looking for something specific and whilst many countries might not stand out as a good choice for a family trip, we can always find the most suitable hotels and ensure that your needs are met.
Greece:
This is a brilliant country with several islands that are excellent for families. Not only is it a short flight with most islands from London being within a four to five hour flight, it has reliably hot weather. For me this is great, I like to feel like I am on holiday, when on holiday. However this is not ideal with very young children, so we also recommend that it can be a brilliant place for a May half-term holiday, not as expensive as many places during this time, it has good weather and is a brilliant alternative.
Many of our hotels for example Club Med Gregolimano are all-inclusive hotels, offering lots of activities included in the price of the holiday. Childcare is also something that we offer with these hotels and can work perfectly for younger children or when you have children of different ages that would enjoy making some friends on holiday.
Dominican Republic:
One of the easiest islands in the Caribbean to travel to, the Dominican Republic is fantastic for families. A direct flight from London Heathrow, it is only nine hours to Punta Cana, and you are in the Caribbean able to sit back and relax for a week or two. Whilst it is a little further afield there are some exquisite hotels that are specifically family orientated for example the Hotel Club Med Punta Cana inclusive family-friendly hotel. With childcare from four months, four restaurants, three swimming pools and three bars, as well as windsurfing, trapeze, tennis and sailing as included activities, there is so much to do. If you are looking for some peace and quiet there is also an adults only Zen Area which is an incredible place to relax when your children are busy with activities. The great thing is that you can do as many or as few activities as you would like and with all-inclusive food and drinks it means you never have to worry.
Not only is it an excellent hotel but there is also a 5* space with family suites and a higher level of service and concierge which means you can have all the luxury of a Caribbean deluxe holiday and all the fun of a family holiday in one.
Italy:
Italy and the surrounding islands of Sardinia and Sicily are fantastic places to go as a family. With a short flight, and only one hour ahead from the UK, it is a wonderful place to go with your family. Italy is great for children, they always love the cuisine, pizza and pasta make for happy children. For those with a more refined palate there are incredible restaurants offering local produce and fresh seafood.
The weather is warm but generally not so hot it is uncomfortable, it is peaceful, there are stunning views, the quality of hotels and villas are incredible and special. Many of which have spa facilities and childcare as well as a choice of restaurants offering excellent service and wines. Italy offers a huge variety of landscapes with rolling hills covered in vineyards to mountains and beautiful beaches.
South Africa:
If you are looking for something more adventurous, or your families first safari experience then South Africa is not to be missed. Whilst the flight is a little longer than the likes of Kenya, it is direct and a number of good airlines frequent this route. It is only one hour ahead, so there is little or no jet lag to deal with either and it offers lots of family friendly activities.
Great for older children between 7-13 years old or older there are so many things to do, from safari in the Kruger National Park, to touring the Cape which includes the wine regions for the adults. Excursions such as a boat trip to Robben Island, seeing the seals and having lunch in the harbour in Cape Town, climbing Table Mountain or visiting Boulders Beach to see the penguins the list is endless and it can make for one of the most magical holidays.
