Five Greek hotels to visit in 2022
September 21, 2021
Our specialists have been savouring the beauty of the stylish boutique hotels and world-class resorts in Greece, hand-picking favourites across islands such as Corfu, Crete and Mykonos.
Greece has always been a popular Mediterranean destination, perhaps thanks to its easy going and relaxed ambience. That’s as well as its mesmerising and beautiful beaches, delicious yet simple cuisine and welcoming hoteliers and personable restaurateurs. Greece also gives nigh on guaranteed sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s (Celsius) for much of May to September. There’s plenty of reasons to visit Greece, and that’s without touching on its history and many many things to visit.
In recent years there have been some incredible hotels popping up across the Greek islands in particular, we’ve chosen five of our favourites for you to consider for your next Grecian getaway!
1. Domes of Corfu, Corfu:
It’s no secret that we are BIG fans of the Domes Resorts. They just seem to get the holiday concept completely right. Oozing coolness, calmness and luxury wherever you look. Domes Resorts and Domes holidays are completely dependable in all the right ways, from stylish architecture to understated but spot-on service, they just work.
Domes of Corfu is the latest hotel to be welcomed to the Domes fold. Launched for summer 2021 this extravagant but somehow chilled out resort, sits beachfront on the beautiful Blue Flag awarded Glyfada Beach in Corfu. Within reach of charming Corfu Old Town, the location of this all-rounder resort is brilliant for a 10 day holiday: spend a few days by the beach, perhaps a few more enjoying spa rituals or the resort facilities, and then a final few days exploring the ancient island of Corfu.
With a choice of four restaurants guests of Domes of Corfu can delight in the freshest Mediterranean flavours and ingredients and marvel at the mouth watering simplicity of some of the dishes on offer. There’s a beach bar, children’s club, a private beach and a pop-up CORE concept amongst a wide-range of amenities – plenty to enjoy!
2. Bill & Coo Suites, Mykonos:
Another ‘go-to’ for us at Flagstone Travel, but for a completely different audience, you only need Google ‘Bill & Coo Suites’ to be faced with a considerable number of exceptional 5* reviews. This is a bit of a no brainer for a Greek honeymoon or special holiday. Bill & Coo Suites is an award-winning boutique hotel which opened its doors in 2006 and ever since has been carving out its reputation as a tour de force in the Greek boutique hotel space.
Bill & Coo Suites is sleek and inviting, accenting the cooling white walls of Greece with blue brush strokes and style in abundance. Service is attentive to say the least, absolutely on the money, discreet and so ideal for a mini-moon or honeymoon, everything is exactly as and when you want or need it. The views meanwhile are classically mesmerising, windmills and Mediterranean vistas are aplenty. Don’t forget to dine-in at chef Ntinos Fotinakis’s restaurant either, the tasting menu is sensational, as is the pampering spa.
For guests searching for that extra ounce of privacy, Bill & Coo Suites has this summer added three one bedroom villas that are alongside the hotel, offering the best of both worlds.
3. Ikos Oceania, Halkidiki:
It’s difficult to mention recommendations for a Greek holiday without speaking of the Ikos or Sani resorts. Many Brits will have heard of or even visited Sani Resort, a family-favourite on the Greek peninsula of Halkidiki. However for an even easier but equally luxurious family holiday, our recommendation is Ikos. Ikos Resorts is sister brand to Sani and in essence is the ‘all-inclusive’ version, meaning that maximum time can be spent by the pool, enjoying the cuisine, the inclusive activities or childcare on offer, rather than thinking about the cost.
Ikos Oceania is around 45 minutes away from Thessaloniki Airport meaning that straight away it’s a great choice for families with little ones looking to avoid a lengthy transfer time. Completely renovated recently (in time for summer 2021), Ikos Oceania is a stellar resort with a new look. Rooms and suites have been reinvented to a standard which compliments the Michelin star inspired menus, world-class amenities and service with a smile.
It’s hard to think of something that hasn’t been thought of at Ikos Oceania. If you want to dine out, there’s a ‘dine-out’ program so that’s included. Want to explore the island? There’s a MINI drive adventure included for that. Childcare, of course that’s included and exceptional fun from four years and older (little ones can check-in to crèche at an additional cost). Whilst children are making new friends, adults should definitely book in for a treatment at the Ikos Spa by Anne Semonin or just enjoy the unspoilt 350 metres long stretch of golden sand beach, reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
4. Kirini Boutique Hotel, Santorini:
Santorini for many is the ultimate romantic destination in Europe. The views are iconic with the sun setting over the Caldera or white-washed buildings. Perfect for a honeymoon or week away with your loved one, a hotel which lives up to expectations and harmonises with the island is what many search for. The Kirini Boutique Hotel is a brilliant answer to this search.
Kirini Boutique Hotel is located in Oia, perfect for providing those sunset Caldera views, and also is within about seven minutes walk from the centre of Oia, ideal for exploring when you wish to. Peaceful and tranquil the hotel emits a sense of calmness and has the facilities that one needs to enjoy this serenity. Within Kirini Boutique Hotel is the wonderful Anthos Restaurant as well as a pool lounge and cocktail bar.
Marvel at the view, relish in the service and kick back with your loved one on your private veranda and soak up the charm of this Greek hotspot.
5. Elounda Mare Hotel, Crete:
Elounda is one of THE places to holiday on the Greek islands. Stylish and refined this little spot on the north-east coast of Crete is filled with brilliant 5* hotels and natural beauty. Facing the UNESCO site of Spinalonga (a historic island), Elounda is beach-bliss epitomised.
At the Elounda Mare Hotel there is a private sandy beach to make the most of the Aegean views. The grounds of the hotel are spacious and maintained impeccably, oozing beauty. Meanwhile the dining at the hotel is equally lavish with wide-ranging options from rustic Greek cuisine to al fresco deck-dining. The rooms are generously sized and wonderfully private.
The general atmosphere of the hotel is relaxed and serene, staffing is just as you would want it, the service is great and further enhances that feeling of peacefulness.
