The Volcanoes National Park is home to many different gorilla families and with just 80 permitted visitors a day, it is a natural environment that is admirably preserved. Conservation of the land and these incredible animals is given the utmost importance in Rwanda. There are also many more animals to see on safari in Rwanda and heading to the Nyungwe Forest is the perfect compliment to gorilla trekking.
The Nyungwe Forest is home to 13 different primate species, many bird species and some very elusive leopards. Rwanda is home to the Big Five, these animals can be spotted in the Akagera National Park. This area feels like a traditional safari destination with savannah plains and game drives to experience.
The tea plantations can be found near the Nyungwe Forest and boutique hotels such as the One&Only Nyungwe House are beautifully positioned, peaceful and idyllic to visit. Rwanda also produces some of the best coffee that there is, something to be sampled when visiting. For those looking to relax, Lake Kivu has gorgeous white sandy beaches and picturesque surroundings. Even though Rwanda is landlocked it feels like being on the coast, providing the perfect way to spend a final few days whilst on holiday here.
