Less than two hours from Arusha, in the northeast area of Tanzania, Tarangire National Park is a little quieter than many of the parks close by with a high concentration of bird species mean that its a birders dream.
The Tarangire River crosses the park and is the lifeline to the animals during the dry season. It’s not just bird species that are numerous in the park, the park is well-known for its high concentration of elephants as well as zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck.
The Baobab tree dotted across the park is a common sight across the park create a magnificent setting for a few days of safari with its diverse mix of bushland, vivid green marshland and forests.
Despite its close proximity to Kilimanjaro and Arusha, due to the draw of the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti, the Tarangire is often neglected or given a short duration for exploration. But with its abundant wildlife with big cats and elephants aplenty, make sure to give Tarangire and its relative tranquillity a few days on your tailor-made itinerary.
