Austria is a popular destination for ski holidays, full of Alpine charm, varied and excellent ski terrain, beautiful towns and infamous après ski. The Austrian Alps range from the largest continuous ski area in Austria, the Arlberg ski area situated in the south-west of the country, to the many smaller resorts dotted within close proximity.
Austria offers a certain something that its French ski resort counterparts don’t quite manage to. With short transfer times and wonderfully traditional resorts, surprisingly friendly locals, tasty culinary delights, incredible ski terrain and world-class après ski, it makes sure that skiers and snowboarders flock back year on year once they’ve discovered the charm of Austria.
Hands down the most popular ski resort in Austria is the world famous St. Anton am Arlberg (or St. Anton as it’s more commonly known). St. Anton is not just the most desired resort in Austria but one of the most in-demand resorts found in the European Alps. Combining 305 kilometres of pistes across St. Anton, Lech, Zurs, St. Christoph, Stuben and Sonnenkopf. Offering arguably the best après ski there is, hospitable locals and an attractive resort centre it is easy to see why.
For families St. Anton is not our first port of call however the more tranquil resorts of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are extremely well suited. Just an hour from Innsbruck airport you’ll find these resorts full of beginner and family-friendly runs, Austrian charm and also some of Austria’s most snow-sure terrain with Obergurgl sitting at 1,930 metres altitude. For those that wish to ski the Arlberg area with families why not try the beautiful resort of Lech.
Whether it’s the snowpark in Mayrhofen, the party atmosphere of Ischgl or the peacefulness of St. Christoph that you are looking for, Austria genuinely has something for everyone. Having collectively spent years living in Austria we are always excited to discuss and start planning your next ski trip there, so do get in touch and we’ll help recommend your perfect holiday.
