Running from La Daille to Le Fornet, Val d’Isère has hidden gems throughout the resort all over the resort.
The village is at a height of 1,850 metres, a snow-sure resort with its own glacier and where you can see skiers skiing back to resort until the last day the lifts are open. Part of the Espace Killy, the ski area covers 300 kilometres of pistes, there are numerous guides available in resort for those that choose to explore a little further afield. Val d’Isère is perfectly tailored to all types of skier and the lifts can bring you home if you would like to avoid the trickier last runs down from the Santons, Olympic, La Daille or Le Fornet, you can always get home. The Solaise side towards Le Fornet is tailored towards children and beginners, not only is there the perfect hot chocolate or vin chaud stop, there is a covered escalator and the Madeleine is one of the most famous runs for beginners in the Alps. Offering an excellent choice of ski schools, with group and private instructors as well as fantastic equipment it is an excellent place to get your ski legs back in shape. For the more advanced skiers you can head over to Tignes or reach heights of 3,480 metres the highest point of the lift system is excellent with some lifts having covers and heated seats.
Not only is Val d’Isère fantastic for skiing it has a wonderful choice of mountain restaurants including the Edelweiss, the Fruitiere and the Trifollet, which does a fantastic Plat du Jour. For après ski there is the famous Folie Douce up on the mountain (there is a ski lift within reach if you don’t want to ski home) and Coco Ricos a newer après bar in town, when the sun is shining there is no better place to enjoy après in the mountains. For a savoyard meal in town Casserole is perfect and for fine dining La Table De l’Ours set in the Barmes De l’Ours hotel will offer an exquisite dinner.
For the non-skier there is plenty to do, one can go ice karting, enjoy a mountain lunch, eat crepes in town, après on or off the mountain, visit the pool, take a yoga or pilates class or enjoy a spa treatment. Many chalets have drivers and you will see the exclusive vans driving guests around and collecting them late at night there is also a very prompt and free bus system making it incredibly easy to get around.
