Mini-moons: everything you might need to know
August 15, 2019
A mini-moon is a relatively new concept, the idea of having a few days to breathe, relax, be spoilt and unwind after your incredible wedding day. More and more couples are choosing to go away for a few days after their wedding in recent years, rather than going straight off on an extravagant two or three week trip. This can be for a variety of reasons, from holiday day restrictions from work or down to the fact that they are planning a bigger trip further in the future. Either way they can be just as lavish and inspiring as a long trip away and you will come back feeling like you have been away for longer than you might have.
The ideal mini-moon focus is somewhere that is easy to travel to, a short flight, short transfer and a holiday that will still be a once in a lifetime, memorable and special trip, that will inspire you and bring a smile to your face when you reflect back on your time away. From business class flights to private transfers, boutique hotels or larger spa hotels we have a range of ideas that we hope to inspire you with.
Throughout this feature we will look at Greek hotspots from the picturesque coast of Santorini to the white washed walls and hidden back streets of Mykonos. However it isn’t just Greece which can hold its own as the most idyllic of mini-moon destinations, Italy delights with the rolling Tuscan hills and beautiful Amalfi Coast, whilst France offers serenity across Provence and the chic towns of the Côte d’Azur. Depending on the time of year that you are going, you may even wish to visit the French or Swiss Alps, with incredible hotels and chalets on offer whether you are a skier or just enjoy the beauty of the mountains there is a mini-moon which will perfectly suit you. All of our mini-moons are bespoke and will be created depending upon what you are looking for as no couple is the same.
Greece:
Over the last few years Santorini’s popularity has soared with its Greek charm and incredible Caldera views where romantic sunsets are perfectly paired with a late afternoon cocktail or gin and tonic, it is somewhere many dream of. Whether you are staying in Oia or Imerovigli the views will not disappoint, neither will the high quality of the excellent selection of boutique hotels which offer fine dining, exquisite service and cooling rooms built into the hillside. One of our favourites is the Grace Hotel Santorini, Auberge Resort Collection, this five star hotel will not disappoint, if you are looking for tranquility and privacy this is the place to choose.
Moving onto Mykonos which traditionally has a lively reputation, it can be the ideal place, when not staying in Mykonos Town to relax, rejuvenate and to really see what beauty this island has to offer. The Myconian Utopia is a fantastic Greek hideaway, set just above Elia beach it is ideal for couples on a romantic holiday. Offering a beautiful spa, it has an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant as well as pool club and many of the rooms offer private pools and jetted tubs.
Italy:
For those looking for an Italian mini-moon, picturing beautiful warm sunsets, incredible sea views and delicious local cuisine and wine, the Amalfi Coast is the place to go, full of historic culture and incredible restaurants that you will never want to leave. The Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi is a luxurious and special hotel carved into the cliffside and it offers the ultimate in terms of al fresco dining and locally sourced Mediterranean seafood. The spa and infinity pool will have you feeling immediately relaxed, which we would hope for all our guests on a mini-moon.
For a completely different take on Italy, yet equally as desirable, the Principe di Piemonte in Tuscany is the classic Italian getaway. A charming and magnificent hotel with rooftop pool overlooking the coast, with a two star Michelin restaurant, it is an enchanting and excellently located hotel. Found within a short walk from the beach surrounded by fantastic restaurants and gelato parlours you will feel as though you have stepped back in time.
Alternative ideas:
For an alternative twist on a mini-moon, not only do we offer sophisticated and chic five star hotels such as the Hôtel Les Roches Rouges on the Cote d’Azur, we also offer a range of idyllic hotels in the French Alps. For those looking for a romantic snow-filled holiday with outdoor hot-tubs, champagne and mesmerising views over the winter months, this is an outstanding mini-moon option. The picturesque resort of Chamonix is just over an hour from Geneva and offers a bustling town full of restaurants, boutiques and bars, yet a beautiful river runs through it and it is peaceful and a lovely place for a winter walk. Excellent for keen skiers, this resort also offers trips up the Aiguille du Midi or a train to its glacier for non-skiers and there are a range of spas, we can offer bespoke accommodation to suit your needs.
