Santorini, from caldera views to hidden tavernas...

Santorini is a beautiful small island in the Aegean Sea and one of the Cyclades Islands of Greece. Famous for its beautiful Caldera views and sunsets, it is a romantic island that is popular for honeymoons and mini-moons. The island is full of hidden cobbled streets lined with brightly colored Mediterranean flowers and white washed buildings.
Warm from April to early November it is fantastic for spring and autumn holidays as well as summer weeks away. Not just suited to romantic couples holidays the island has much more to offer than just sunset views. From the red, white and black sand beaches, cliff views and hikes to the volcano and hot springs it is no wonder this island is growing more popular by the day.
The west side of the island is incredibly popular with honeymooners heading for Oia or Imerovigli to stay where the sunset views are something to behold. Here there are some incredible caldera views, the Grace Hotel Santorini is one that you will want to stay at. Set in one of the quieter of the caldera facing towns this boutique hotel has a fantastic restaurant, rooftop bar, infinity pool and chic rooms. It is a wonderful place to spend a few days. Many of the rooms have private plunge pools and beautiful terraces ideal for if you are looking for privacy and space whilst away.
Easily accessible for a long weekend or week’s stay, Santorini is also a popular destination for those looking to island hop and it can be combined with a trip to one of the other Greek islands that are a short boat trip away. The flight is just four hours from the UK and most hotels are within a 20 to 40 minute transfer. This small and volcanic island is picturesque and offers a mixture of beach and cliff views.
If you are considering a romantic break, mini-moon or honeymoon then Santorini is an excellent option. With a range of restaurants and sights on offer, you can choose to have private dining in your hotel, explore the local restaurants or see some of the sights. The restaurants range from beach shacks to fine dining and there is plenty of space for romantic picnics on one of the many beaches. Those looking for some culture can visit the ancient Akrotiri, an archaeological site in Santorini, once destroyed by a volcanic eruption it is an interesting way to spend the afternoon learning the history of Santorini.
There is the Santorini Brewery Company which was setup by locals where different beers are brewed such as the Crazy Donkey and other donkey-themed tipples. The island also has some vineyards where you can visit and try wine tasting or book wine tours and lunches.
The island of Santorini is interesting and diverse and not just suited to couples, it can be excellent for family holidays as well. A must visit is the volcanic black sandy beach in Perissa, it makes for a lovely walk, there are some fantastic restaurants and cafés close by, just be careful to keep your sandals on as the sand gets very hot underfoot.
An island that is full of great food with little tavernas in the cobbled streets offering fresh produce and local drinks, you will find hidden treasures around every corner. Psaraki is famous for its fresh seafood and offers beautiful views of the island’s main fishing port, a must for seafood lovers located on the Vlychada seafront. If you are looking for dinner with caldera views then head to Anogi, located in Imerovigli central square it serves local Greek cuisine. For sunset views and an outdoor spacious terrace the Meze Meze in Finikia village offers views of Sikinos and Ios, serving locally sourced foods cooked simply it is a place to visit for some drinks, an incredible view and light bites instead.
